5 Gun Safety Tips Every Firearm Owner Should Know

Jon Stram's picture

Since June is National Safety Month, we thought it would be the perfect time to brush up on our gun safety. We all know how dangerous guns can be when not handled properly.

To keep you and your fellow shooters safe, we brought you a few gun safety tips to be etched into your mind on all your hunts from here on out:

Hunting Survival Pack

Whenever I head on a trip or go out hunting, I always bring my hunting survival pack. It holds the necessities I need for any emergency situation I could find myself in.

It’s as important to my hunts as my gun, but I also use it every day.

Jon's Simple Grilled Salmon

I’m a pretty simple guy, so my ‘recipes’ are pretty simple, too. This one is for fish, not game.

Take either a whole, gutted salmon or a fillet of salmon, and place it on a couple sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Sprinkle lemon pepper, or spices of your choice on the flesh. Liberally squirt lemon or lime juice over all the flesh. It’s better to put too much liquid rather than too little.

My Good Ol' Ruger: For All the Guns I've Loved Before

I’ve never been a one-gun guy.  I like owning and shooting a wide variety of rifles, shotguns, and handguns. I haven’t nearly owned, used, or shot all of the firearms I’d like to, but I’m not through yet!

I’ve owned shotguns in virtually every type of action – pump, semi-auto, single shot, double barrel side by side, and over/under.

Ithaca, Browning, Winchester, Remington, Mossberg, and a couple of old, turn of the century rather obscure brands that I can’t recall at the moment.

Gun Show Bonding

During the off-season, I try to keep busy by taking ScopeShields to as many gun shows as I can. At gun shows, you meet many interesting, friendly people who visit your booth or hold booths of their own. I’ve known a lot of gun show vendors over the years, and by and large, they’re a great group of people.

New AR & Range

Not much hunting going on this time of year. A little bird hunting, some winter coyotes, but all things considered, pretty slow on the hunting front. Time to moan and groan and reminisce? NO WAY!

Time to get busy!
